Conversation History

Access past conversations and resume sessions seamlessly

Overview

ModelMonkey automatically saves every conversation you have. You can access your complete conversation history, review past exchanges, and resume any session to continue exactly where you left off.

This means you never lose context. Whether you step away for a few minutes or return days later, your previous work is always accessible.

Tip

Your conversations are saved automatically as you chat. There is no manual save required.

Viewing Past Conversations

To access your conversation history:

1. Open History - Click the History icon in the top navigation bar (clock icon).

2. Browse Sessions - Your conversations appear in a scrollable list, sorted by most recent activity. Each entry shows:

  • The conversation title (or "Untitled Conversation" if none was set)
  • Relative timestamp (e.g., "2 hours ago", "3 days ago")
  • Message count indicating conversation length

3. Load More - If you have many conversations, click "Load More" at the bottom to see older sessions. The list shows how many conversations you're viewing out of the total.

4. Empty State - If you haven't started any conversations yet, you'll see a prompt to begin your first one.

Resuming a Session

To continue a previous conversation:

1. Open History - Click the History icon in the navigation bar.

2. Select a Session - Click on any conversation in the list. The currently active session is highlighted with a blue indicator.

3. Continue Working - The conversation history loads automatically. You'll see all previous messages exactly as they appeared, and you can continue chatting from where you left off.

When you resume a session, ModelMonkey restores your complete context including all messages exchanged, any pending approvals, and the spreadsheet you were working with.

What Gets Preserved

When you resume a conversation, ModelMonkey restores your complete session state:

Message History
Every message you sent and every response you received is preserved exactly. This includes the full conversation thread with all context intact.

Pending Approvals
If you had changes awaiting approval when you left, they remain in their pending state. You can review and approve or reject them when you return.

Spreadsheet Association
The session remembers which spreadsheet you were working with. This ensures ModelMonkey maintains the correct context for your data operations.

Session Metadata
Details like conversation title, credits consumed, and timestamps are preserved for your reference.

Tip

Even if your session is interrupted unexpectedly, ModelMonkey automatically repairs the conversation state when you resume.

Starting a New Conversation

To start a fresh conversation without resuming an existing one:

1. Click New Chat - Click the "+" (New Chat) button in the top navigation.

2. Begin Fresh - You get a clean slate with no prior context. The conversation title resets to its default state.

This is useful when you want to work on an unrelated task without carrying over context from a previous session.

Warning

Starting a new conversation does not delete your history. All previous conversations remain accessible in the History view.

Session Organization

Conversations are organized automatically to help you find what you need:

Chronological Order
Sessions appear with the most recently updated at the top. Active conversations naturally float to the top of your list.

Automatic Titles
ModelMonkey generates descriptive titles for your conversations based on what you discuss. This makes it easier to identify sessions at a glance.

Relative Timestamps
Recent sessions show relative times like "Just now", "2 hours ago", or "Yesterday". Older sessions display the specific date.

Message Count
Each session shows the total number of messages, giving you a sense of how extensive the conversation was.

Best Practices

Use Descriptive First Messages
Your initial message often influences the auto-generated title. Starting with clear intent like "Analyze Q3 revenue by region" produces better titles than "Can you help me?"

One Topic Per Session
Keep conversations focused on related tasks. This makes it easier to find and resume relevant work later.

Resume When Continuing Work
If you're picking up where you left off on an analysis, resume the session rather than starting fresh. This preserves all your previous context and saves you from re-explaining your data.

Start Fresh for New Topics
When switching to an unrelated task, start a new conversation. This keeps your history organized and prevents context confusion.
